The evenings are getting longer, but the battles on the board are just heating up. We are thrilled to announce that the Thurrock Chess Club Summer Cup officially kicked off this week!
Whether you’re looking to sharpen your tactics for the next league season or just want to enjoy some competitive chess in a friendly atmosphere, the Summer Cup is the place to be.
🕒 Tournament Format
This year, we’re keeping the pace brisk but thoughtful. All tournament games will be played under the following time control:
- 60 minutes per player
- 5-second increment added for every move played
This format ensures an intense game that usually wraps up within two and a half hours—perfect for those mid-week club nights.

The Summer Cup is open to all current club members. If you haven’t registered your interest yet, please speak to the Malcolm at our next club day to see how you can get involved in the upcoming rounds.
